TCS NQT 2026

TCS NQT 2026 Interview: My Real Experience & Mistakes

If you are preparing for TCS NQT 2026, this article will give you a complete, practical understanding of the process—from registration to final interview.

I appeared for TCS NQT in 2025 during my final year of B.E., and I’m sharing my real experience so that you can prepare smarter for 2026.

This is not theory.
This is what actually happened — including the mistakes I made.

What Is TCS NQT?TCS NQT 2026 Experience

TCS NQT (National Qualifier Test) is a standardized assessment conducted by Tata Consultancy Services to hire freshers for different entry-level roles such as Ninja, Digital, and Prime.

The official registration and updates are published on the TCS iON platform and the TCS NextStep portal.

According to the official TCS website:

  • NQT is conducted multiple times a year.

  • It can be taken by final-year students and recent graduates.

  • Selection depends on test performance and interview rounds.

For 2026 aspirants, the pattern may evolve slightly. Always verify dates and syllabus from the official portal.

My TCS NQT 2025 Experience (For 2026 Aspirants)

I am a 2025 graduate. I applied for TCS NQT during my final year.

Here is the complete journey.

Step 1: TCS NQT Registration Process (NextStep Portal)

I applied through the TCS NextStep portal in February 2025.

The registration process included:

  • Personal details

  • Academic details (10th, 12th, graduation)

  • Resume upload

  • Photo upload

The form was straightforward.
But here’s my first mistake.

Mistake #1: Filling the Form in a Hurry

I rushed through the academic percentage section. Later, I had to double-check everything during document verification.

For TCS NQT 2026:

  • Keep all mark sheets ready.

  • Enter exact percentages (as per official calculation).

  • Use a professional resume.

Admit cards are usually released before the exam date. I received login credentials and instructions to download the hall ticket.

Step 2: TCS NQT Exam Pattern (Foundation + Advanced)

The TCS NQT exam is divided into two major sections.

Part A: Foundation Section (Mandatory)

This section decides eligibility for the Ninja role.

It includes:

  • Numerical Ability

  • Verbal Ability

  • Reasoning Ability

Time is limited. Speed matters.

There is generally no negative marking, but always confirm from official instructions for your year.

Part B: Advanced Section (For Digital/Prime Roles)

If you aim for higher packages, this section is crucial.

It includes:

  • Advanced Aptitude

  • Coding Questions (usually 1 easy + 1 medium)

Mistake #2: Underestimating the Coding Section

I focused heavily on aptitude and assumed coding would be manageable.

But coding needs speed, logic, and syntax clarity.

For TCS NQT 2026:

  • Practice string manipulation.

  • Revise recursion basics.

  • Solve LCM, HCF, array, and pattern-based problems.

  • Practice SQL queries with joins.

Coding practice platforms like official documentation, standard textbooks, and structured preparation help more than random YouTube videos.

Is the TCS NQT difficult?

Honestly? No.

But it is competitive.

If you prepare consistently for 2–3 months:

  • Ninja is achievable.

  • Digital requires stronger coding and problem-solving clarity.

Average students can crack it.
But average preparation won’t work.

Step 3: Interview Call (Digital Role)

In May 2025, I received mail for the digital role interview.

The interview was scheduled at Indraprastha Engineering College, Ghaziabad.

And here comes the biggest real-life twist.

I received confirmation just two days before the interview—while I was 700 km away.

I booked a Tatkal ticket and traveled immediately.

Mistake #3: Not Planning for Sudden Interview Scheduling

TCS sometimes schedules interviews quickly.

For 2026:

  • Keep documents ready.

  • Keep funds reserved for emergency travel.

  • Keep formal clothes prepared in advance.

Interview Day Experience

Document verification happened first.

They checked:

  • 10th & 12th marksheets

  • Semester results

  • Government ID

  • Resume copy

After verification, we waited for our turn.

It was my first interview.
Yes, I was nervous.

That’s normal.

TR, MR, and HR Interview (Combined Panel)TCS NQT interview Tips

Three interviewers were present:

  • Technical (TR)

  • Managerial (MR)

  • HR

All in one round.

Let’s break it down.

Technical Interview (TR Round)

The technical interviewer started with:

“Introduce yourself.”

Then he asked me to write two programs:

  • Reverse a string

  • LCM and HCF logic

Then:

  • Questions on internships

  • Questions on projects

  • One SQL join query

Mistake #4: Explaining Too Much

When nervous, we over-explain.

Keep answers:

  • Clear

  • Structured

  • To the point

For TCS NQT 2026:

  • Revise OOP concepts.

  • Practice SQL joins.

  • Prepare a project explanation in under 2 minutes.

Managerial Interview (MR Round)

This round focused on:

  • Family background

  • Hometown

  • Academic performance trend

They asked why my percentage dropped from 10th to B.Tech.

This question tests honesty and maturity.

I explained:

  • Increased competition

  • Technical difficulty

  • Personal improvement efforts

Never blame teachers or colleges.

HR Interview Round

HR questions included:

  • What do you know about TCS?

  • Why should we hire you?

  • Why TCS?

  • Family background

Here is something important.

You must know basic facts about the company from the official Tata Consultancy Services website:

  • Global presence

  • Business areas

  • Approximate employee strength

  • Core services

Mistake #5: Memorizing Instead of Understanding

HR can detect memorized answers.

Speak naturally.
Show clarity.
Show willingness to learn.

Result Announcement

After 2–3 months, I received the selection mail.

The waiting period feels long.

But it’s normal.

During that time, I continued applying to other companies.
You should too.

Never depend on one company.
