TCS NQT 2026 Interview: My Real Experience & Mistakes

If you’re preparing for the TCS NQT 2026, then this article will guide you through every stage, like application, test, and interviews. My real experience helps you to understand the process of TCS NQT. This blog covers the questions asked, key topics to prepare, and my personal practical tips to help you perform better and tell you how I achieved a digital role.

I am a 2025 graduate and appeared for the TCS NQT 2025 during my final year of Bachelor of Engineering (BE).

Step 1: Application Process in NextStep portal

I applied for the TCS NQT 2025 on 19 February 2025 through the TCS Next portal. The registration process was not so hard; they gave the form that every applicant has to fill out. So I filled out my details and uploaded my resume and profile photo.

On 04 April 2025, I received my admit card download link along with the login credentials (user ID and password, which was my registration number) and instructions for changing the password. I completed all the required steps, after which my online test (CBT) was scheduled for 09 April 2025.

Step 2: Test pattern

The test is divided into two sections:

Part A—Foundation Section

This section tests basic aptitude and reasoning and assigns the ninja role (3.5 lpa).

No negative marking
Mandatory for all TCS NQT aspirants

Part B—Advanced Section

This section is required for Digital (7 lpa) and Prime (9 lpa) roles and assesses deeper aptitude plus coding skills.

Step 3: Interview Preparation

Then On 28 May 2025, I got the mail that I am selected for a digital role interview at TCS. So I started practicing for the interview.

I went through: –

• My internship experience, college projects, and technical notes.
• Common TCS interview questions
• Basic programming concepts, OOPs, and SQL queries.

The interview was scheduled for 27 June 2025 at 11:30AM at the Indraprastha Engineering College (IPEC), Ghaziabad. I received the confirmation mail just a day before. And this mail came just 2 days before the interview, and at that time I was 700 km away from Ghaziabad, so I booked a ticket in the Tatkal quota by paying double the amount and visited Ghaziabad for the interview.

Step 4: Interview Day

After all the preparation, I reached the venue on time for the second shift of the interview, and the TCS team and college process went well. The process of the day of the interview:

• First they verified all the documents, like results of 10th, 12th and all the semester results, the Aadhar card, etc.
• After the verification process, they asked us to wait for our turn.

This was my first interview, so I was very nervous and thinking about what they would ask.

Step 4: Technical + Managerial + HR Interview (TR + MR + HR)

When my turn came, it was already 3 PM, so they had to finish the interviews quickly. They scheduled my HR, managerial, and technical interviews all at once, which made me even more nervous.

When my turn came, I entered the cabin where three interviewers were present—one technical (TR), one managerial (MR), and one HR.

Technical Interviewer in TCS:

First, they introduced themselves and the other members of the interview panel and then asked me to:

1. Introduce Yourself
2. Then they asked me to write the two simple programs on an online compiler. The first question was to reverse a string, and the second one is related to LCM and HCF.
3. Then they asked about internships and projects.
4. They also asked to write an SQL query related to joins.

Manager Interviewer in TCS:

They started with

• Some normal questions about my family, hometown, etc.
• They also asked behavioral questions.
• They asked me why my percentage kept decreasing over time—for example, I scored higher in 10th grade, lower in 12th, and even lower in my B.Tech.

HR Interview

Then HR started their interview questions:

• What do you know about TCS, and how many employees does the company have?
• Tell me about your family and college experience
• Why should we hire you?
• Why do you want to work here?

I kept my answers clear, short, and genuine. After the discussion, I thanked him and left the office feeling positive.

Step 5: Result

After 2–3 months, I finally received an email from TCS informing me that I had been selected.

At that time, TCS was undergoing layoffs, so I still considered it a valuable opportunity and a great learning experience.

1. Is TCS NQT difficult for freshers?
   No. Preparation for 2–3 months is sufficient to qualify for the Ninja and Digital roles.

2. Can average students crack TCS NQT Digital?
   Yes. Average students can crack TCS NQT.

3. Is coding compulsory for a digital role?
   Yes. Coding is compulsory for digital roles.

Key Learnings and Tips

1. Regularly revise aptitude and coding fundamentals.

2. Strengthen your understanding of OOPs concepts through hands-on coding.

3. Practice essential SQL queries.

4. Be confident and clear while explaining your internships, projects, and overall college journey.

5. Keep all required documents neatly organized for verification.

6. Stay calm and composed—the Tata Consultancy Services NQT interview panel is generally supportive.

7. Even if results take time, continue learning, practicing, and improving without losing momentum.

8. Don’t depend only on TCS just because you’ve given the exam and are waiting for the result. Apply to more companies as well.
